Ever since I got in to the career of teaching English, doing
TESOL or CELTA was my aim. But the Fund for doing TESOL was a big
question. Six or seven months ago I even
had sketched a plan to save money to do TESOL but nothing worked out. But something
wonderful happened two weeks ago as if it happens in films.
One evening,
my dad came home with the news that there is a friend of him Mr. Radhakrishnan,
who is ready to lend the course amount with an agreement of returning the
amount once I get a job after TESOL. Later I found out that Mr. Radhakrishnan
is a very exceptional person who finds joy and happiness in helping others to
build their dream careers in life. I was very lucky to have him and I owe him
so much for helping me. So, I was so excited to hear the offer and I applied
for the course staring in Jan, 11, 2015 right at that night.
I got a call
from CILA (Cochin International Language Academy) where I’m planning to do
TESOL, the next morning and they said I have to visit CILA for an interview. I attended the interview that week.
I met Helen from
CILA. She is one of the tutors in the institute. The interview started in the afternoon
of that Saturday. She was no nice to me.
She asked questions like my back ground, reason to do TESOL etc. Helen explained
all about TESOL after that. Once the talk was done I was directed to go a class
room where I had to do some tests.
I was so comfortable in the room and they
gave me a cup of tea. Helen gave me some grammar sheets where I had to fill the
right answers. I also had to write a short essay on the topic ‘Importance of
safety awareness programs for students at schools’. Once I finished all these,
Helen checked the sheets and corrected the errors and gave me marks. I scored
98 of hundred and she congratulated me. She said no one from a Malayalam medium
school back ground (I studied and grew up in a Malayalam Medium School) has
scored 98 at CILA. I was impressed and soon after the interview I called dad
and shared the news. I also texted the interview result to Radhakrishnan uncle.
After the
interview I took a tour of the institute. Then I discussed the fee paying procedures
with the CILA officials. They took me to a house where I have to stay during
the course. After all this I got back home by night.
